Dental implants are used to replace missing teeth, and serve as artificial ′tooth roots′.
A dental implant is made of pure titanium or titanium alloy, and has almost the same size and shape of the root of a tooth. It is inserted into the bone where a tooth is missing. It is biocompatible with bone and integrates fully within it, creating an extremely strong bond. If you are missing one tooth or several our dentist can help, and if implants are for you then we would recommended an implant consult with our Implantologist.
To determine whether dental implants can be placed, we will need to take x-rays. This will help us decide how much room we have to place the implant and we can then start planning your treatment. If the site has been without a tooth for years, we may find that there isn″t enough room to house an implant. This is when something called a ″bone graft″ or ″bone augmentation″ is necessary. We will explain the procedure & implications to you before commencing any treatment.
The benefits of dental implants are both functional and cosmetic.
With our dental implants, your facial features will be restored, and your confidence will be back.
Dental implant treatment will not be rushed here at Streatfield Dental Surgery. Implants placed are left to heal for a period of time. Delaying the loading of the implant ensures that the implant is fully integrated with the surrounding bone lowering the risk of failure.
Dental implants offer many advantages over conventional dentures and bridges, which are often uncomfortable and, due to slippages and clicks, limit a person’s ability to speak and eat normally. Because of this, many people feel self-conscious wearing their dentures.
DENTAL IMPLANTS CAN ENHANCE YOUR QUALITY OF LIFE BY IMPROVING:
- Your chewing and speaking functions.
- Improve your confidence by replacing teeth that won’t move or loosen. You’ll also have the same look and feel of your natural teeth.
- Eliminate irritated and painful gums, as well as damaging pressure on remaining natural teeth caused by dentures.
DENTAL IMPLANTS CAN PREVENT PROGRESSIVE BONE LOSS.
One of the main benefits of dental implants is that they can help prevent bone loss. Your jawbone requires pressure from chewing in order to maintain its density. within the first year of losing a tooth, your jawbone can potentially lose up to 25% of its volume, and this will continue for as long as the tooth goes un-replaced by an implant.
I’VE GOT A LOOSE DENTURE. CAN DENTAL IMPLANTS HELP?
Yes, Dental Implants are commonly used to replace individual missing teeth, however, they can also be used to secure loose dentures in your jaw. Instead of having a crown fitted to the top of the implant, a precision-made attachment can be fitted which inserts into the underneath surface of the denture, securing the denture to the implant. In the lower jaw, this can be achieved with as few as two implants.
If you have sufficient jaw bone and are willing to have more implants inserted then you can often be fitted with a solid set of teeth attached to the dental implants (a full-arch bridge). This set of teeth would then stay in permanently and would look and feel very similar to a natural set of teeth.
WHAT ARE THE MAIN ADVANTAGES OF DENTAL IMPLANTS?
- Dental Implants behave more like Natural Teeth, they provide strength, unlike other restorations.
- The implants fuse to the jawbone and offer a secure base for the replacement teeth, some patients find this a comfortable option in restoring their smile.
- Dental implants also retain teeth look and feel more like natural teeth.
- Dental Implants can restore your bite force.
- Enables you to keep your natural speech – some tooth replacement options can impact your ability to pronounce some words.
